Bonhomie & Hattiesburg Southern 2-6-2 number 250 (BLW 59239) was working at the railroad’s yard in Hattiesburg, Mississippi on 5 July 1961, about four months before steam operations ended. This photo was taken on the day the railroad’s former master mechanic Grover Cleveland Logan was laid to rest. Mr. Logan had been responsible for keeping the B&HS in steam; but on 21 October the railroad bought a pair of former Wabash SW1’s, and after they arrived, steam was dead. The 250 was sold to the Wanamaker, Kempton & Southern in Pennsylvania in September 1963. |
