PRR Passenger Station Wreck, 1933
iStation. Here is an image of a photo that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 1 August 1933. Shown here is a Pennsylvania Railroad K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" steam locomotive that derailed near tse Passenger Station while pulling the eastbound "Liberty Limited." It split a switch, overturned, and demolished FG Tower. Engineman Frank Buck died in the process. Here, a sling has been placed around the engine's smokebox to begin rerailing it. The names of the photographer and the Supervisor pictured here, plus the numbers of the locomotive and the wrecking crane, are not recorded. Photo taken from the 12th Street Footbridge. William E. Burket Collection.
