Long before a couple of diesel switchers carried the number 704, this Alco-Brooks built 2-8-2 Mikado had the honor. Delivered in October of 1912 as CM&StP 8103, it was later renumbered in 1938 to 704. It was retired in September of 1949, just a few months after this photo was taken. Specs - class L2-r3" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 26x30" cylinders, engine weight of 277,800 lb, tractive effort of 54,723 lb. An unknown photographer took this photo. |
