Caught sitting in the "dead/scrap line" at the Bensenville Yard is MILW 2-8-0 Consolidation #1233. Originally built by ALCo-Brooks in December of 1912 as CMStP #7233, it was renumbered twice - in 1927 to CMStP&P 7233 & in 1938 to MILW 1233. The loco served for nearly 42 tears before being retired in November of 1954. Some 5 months later it still sits awaiting the scrapper's torch to arrive. Specs - 63" drivers, 185 psi boiler pressure, 24x30" cylinders, engine wt of 224,000lb, tractive effort of 43,130 lb. Unfortunately, no photograher was listed for the photo. |
