Standing outside the Cologne, MN, depot on a snowy February day is 2-8-2 Mikado #624. Built by Alco-Brooks in July of 1912 originally as CM&StP #1867 (serial #51446), it was renumbered in 1938 to CMStP&P #624. The loco served for nearly 37 years before being sold in December of 1949. Specs - 63" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 26x30" cylinders, engine weight of 277,800 lb, tractive effort of 54,723 lb. An unknown photographer took this photo.

Steaming in the cold February air is 2-8-2 Mikado #616. The loco was originally built as CM&StP #1852 (serial #51431) in June of 1912 by Alco-Brooks but renumbered in 1938 to CMStP&P 616, The loco lasted in service until being sold in September of 1949. Description:
Long before an EMD SW1200 unit wore the number MILW 613, this Alco-Brooks built 2-8-2 Mikado had the honor. Built in June of 1912 as CM&StP 1843 (serial #51422), it was renumbered CMStP&P 613 in 1938. The loco was eventually retired in May of 1951. Bunched together in a scrap line is #625 already missing it main drive rod and bell. Built by Alco-Brooks in July of 1912 originally as CM&StP #1868 (serial #51447), it was renumbered to CMStP&P 625 in 1938. According to the Alco records, the loco lasted until being sold in December of 1949. It appears that it possibly was sold to a scrapper. .No date was given for this photo but it appears to be around December of 1949. It appears that #635 is sitting in a scrap line as it's missing some parts like its bell and headlight. The loco was built in August of 1912 by Alco-Brooks as CM&StP #1888 (serial #51467) but renumbered to CMStP&P 635 in 1938. It's retirement came in November of 1949. No date was given for the photo but most likely it's November or December of 1949. MILW 2-8-2 #628 - Milwaukee Road
Description:
Long before an EMD switcher wore the number MILW 628, this 2-8-2 Mikado had the honor. Buiilt by Alco-Brooks in July of 1912 as CM&StP #1873 (serial #51452), it was first renumbered 8073 later in 1912 and then again to CMStP&P 628 in 1938. It lasted until retirement in May of 1954 - one of the longer lasting of this group. This may actually be the last photo taken before it met the scrapper's torch. The stripping has not started yet when the photo was taken however. Specs - 63" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 26x30" cylinders, engine weight of 277,800 lb, tractive effort of 54,723 lb.
