Description:  4th Street. Here is an original photo that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad locomotives in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 05 April 1964. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #8114 and #8969. Both are BS-16M's built by Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton and rated at 1,600 horsepower each. #8114 was constructed in May of 1951 and retired in September of 1967, while #8969 was built in June of 1951 and retired in July of 1966. They are parked near the 4th Street Footbridge and SOUTH Tower, and will resume their yard-shifting duties the following morning. Engine #8114 was once owned by the Pittsburgh & West Virginia Railroad and numbered #40!

Description:  4th Street. Here is an original photo that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad trains in Altoona, Pennsylvania, during April of 1966. Shown here are eight freight trains parked in the Altoona Yards, all awaiting crews so that they can begin climbing the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Gallitzin and points West. Visible on the left are several passenger cars awaiting reconditioning in the PRR's Passenger Car Shops behind them. Visible near the center (L to R) are PRR engines #7210 and #7196-B. Both are EFS-17M's built by EMD in 1957 and rated at 1,750 horsepower each. Visible at the far right is PRR engine #8575, an ES-15M built by EMD in 1953 rated at 1,500 horsepower.
